Features a portion of the game played at the Carolina Stadium on October 24th 1946 between the USC Gamecocks and the Clemson Tigers. Rex Enright guided the Gamecocks to a 5-3 record in 1946, but the most memorable contest came against Clemson. South Carolina won the game for the school’s first win over Clemson in the Modern Era, 26-14. October 24th, 1946 – South Carolina 26 Clemson 14 – Columbia, SC “The 1946 game could be the most chaotic in the football series. Fans from both sides were denied entrance when counterfeit tickets were discovered, which led to a near riot. To add to the wild scene, a Clemson fan strangled a live chicken at midfield during halftime. Fans from both sides of the rivalry, many of whom who had been denied entrance, along with fans who poured out of the stands, stormed the fences and gates and spilled onto the field. It took U.S. Secretary of State James F. Byrnes, who attended the game along with Strom Thurmond, to settle down the hostile crowd. Once order was restored, fans were allowed to stand along the sidelines, with the teams, while the second half was played to the game's conclusion. Clemson coach Frank Howard reportedly was surrounded by so many fans that he could not see the field. The Gamecocks eventually won by a score of 26-14.”
