1934--Women talk on possible closure of movie theaters--outtakes

it has always been a great pleasure to me to be interested in the development of motion pictures and I hope very much that the managers of the Philadelphia houses will not find it necessary to close their doors because it will not only deprive many persons of innocent pastime in their leisure hours but it will also increase the number of unemployed persons within the city of Philadelphia I feel it is a fine thing for the public to be interested in better moving pictures the problem of opening the houses and keeping them open that is now before the managers is a serious one not only because of the present unemployment situation but if if the houses were closed it would deprive many persons of innocent pleasure I hope that the people who are interested in better moving pictures and the owners and operators of the moving picture houses can come to a mutual understanding whereby it will be unnecessary for the houses to be closed [Applause] I have been interested in the development and improvement of motion pictures for many years and it has been my extreme pleasure to have served on committees with members of the boards of different moving picture centers there has been some talk that the moving picture theaters might close I feel that this would be a great catastrophe as so many people depend today on the pictures for their recreation and pleasure and surely in this day with so much leisure we need the motion pictures but we are all interested in clean pine Morrow the crow motion pictures and we hope that it will not be necessary for the many houses to close because this would be a catastrophe the club women have been interested for years in having fine clean high standard motion pictures and we have lists printed by the different organizations telling people which are the fine high type pictures with all of these thoughts in mind we feel that it would be harmful to close the pictures and we must have only the pictures of high America they you in view of these facts and to consider in the consideration now I have to stop [Applause] the club women all over the United States have been deeply interested for years in the motion pictures and seeing that clean high standard motion pictures were produced where women are especially interested in the motion pictures on account of the influence which it has on the youth today as they are of the impressionable age and it has a great effect upon them in view of all these facts we hope that it will not be necessary to close all the motion picture houses because of some of the ones that are not desirable but that we will have cleaner and better motion pictures so that they may all stay open just think what it would mean if the motion picture houses of America would close the thousands of people who would be thrown out of work and the persons who depend upon the motion pictures for their pleasure would be deprived of this so we must see what can be done so that in a some agreement may be made by which the motion picture houses may stay open and finer and better pictures be produced [Music] I have been interested in the development and progress of motion pictures for many years and it has been my thoughts in mind we hope that the motion picture owners will not see fit to close their theaters and that a conclusion will be met in which they may be kept open but the pictures will be of such high standard because we do need the motion picture theaters today the club women all over the United States have been deeply interested for years in the motion pictures and seeing that clean high standard
