[Music] thank you and our quiz Master is none other than Stan Francis You Bet Your Life I'm Stan Francis but because of some people who don't obey our traffic rules and regulations You Bet Your Life every time you drive a car on a city street or a country Highway and that brings us to the subject of this quiz I'm going to call it [Music] safe driving now watch closely everyone has an equal chance to show what he or she knows about it now this automobile belongs to a gentleman by the name of Dorian dope and believe he is Dorian feels he really ought to be a circus Rider and his trouble is that he practices on streets and highways Dorian suppose you show us just how stupid and dangerous you are [Music] you see what I mean now the game is to watch closely and see how many errors you can spot a score of 20 is perfect 18 is excellent even 15 is good but if you get less than 10 you better stick to streetcars or stay home already all right now watch carefully okay Dorian let's go [Music] hello wait a minute I'll give that one away free Dorian cut out into a traffic stream without signaling now everybody has one right sorry Dorian carry on [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign foreign [Music] who are you well so they'll wait a while before ordering Dorian certainly bet his life plenty of times you know it's a long shot that he's still alive how many years did you catch did anyone get 20. 15. 14. well here they are we'll have Dorian come back and help us spot them count them for yourself one turning out without signaling two not stopping at a through Street three passing a stopped street car four blocking the crosswalk five making a right turn from the middle of the street six making turn at excess Speed without signal seven not slowing down in school area eight unnecessary horn sounding nine speeding 10. failing to stop at Railway Crossing 11. ignoring Community speed limits 12 refusing to give the right of way 13 passing on a hill teen passing on a curve 15. cutting in and out of traffic 16 lighting a cigarette while driving 17. holding up traffic making others cut in and out 18. not dimming lights for approaching car 19 getting out on the wrong side 20 parking without lights well there you are 20 driving faults which no doubt everybody here noticed because we're careful not to commit them but while we had fun with Dorian and his driving it is a serious business and today we have with us one who knows just how serious it is um that that wouldn't be a summons you have there I hope no no I was just making a few notes oh I see and it seems to me there was one you omit it oh I I know there are hundreds of other driving false oh no no that's not what I mean you see at any quiz show I've attended there's always been a prize yes that's that's quite true have you any suggestions yes indeed the prize everyone can take home who has followed this quiz carefully and who has resolved to drive safely is peace of mind you see the dangerous driver not only threatens everyone who gets in his way but he is tearing his own nerves into shreds and the ten minutes or so he may have saved has probably shortened his own life by much more than that it might even have resulted in death or at least loss of time through Serious injury as a matter of fact dangerous driving has been on the increase for some years particularly in the two provinces where traffic is heaviest in the province of Ontario alone in 1946. 688 people were killed in automobile accidents while in 1947 this number increased to 734. yet this Dreadful toll can be cut down in the city of Toronto in 1947 53 people lost their lives in this way as compared with 70 the year before shocking as these figures are they show that the Menace can be reduced there are a great many things I might say but here are two the first alcohol and gasoline do not mix the man who thinks that he can drive safely while drinking is a fool and perhaps even a criminal the second in driving through cities and villages the key to safety is respect for The Pedestrian if more motorists would drive as though they had no horn on their cars there would be fewer accidents if the motorist will always remember that he is in charge of a potential instrument of death he will find his car more and more an instrument of pleasure and convenience thank you officer oh by the way may I drive you home thank you Mr Francis I'm sure we'll get there safely [Music] thank you [Music]
