Kinder und Erzieherin blättern miteinander in einem bebilderten Rezeptbuch. Durch gezielte Fragen fällt die Entscheidung darüber, was gekocht werden soll. Es bilden sich zwei Gruppen, in denen eifrig hantiert wird. Dabei sind allerlei Sachfragen zu klären: Was alles gebraucht wird, um einen Pudding und einen Obstsalat herstellen zu können, ob Äpfel und Orangen geschält und geschnitten werden müssen, wieviel Milch für die Zubereitung des Puddings erforderlich ist u. a. m. Im Verlauf dieses Lernprozesses hat jedes Kind die Chance, seine Fähigkeiten ins Spiel zu bringen. Besonderes Organisationstalent zeigt einer der Buben der 'Obstsalat-Gruppe', der alsbald die Rolle des 'Chefkochs' übernimmt, dessen Anordnungen von den Kameraden wortlos akzeptiert werden. Der geschickten Regieführung der Erzieherin, ihren Impulsen und unauffälligen Hilfen ist es zu danken, dass das gesteckte Ziel - sowohl das Lernziel als auch die Zubereitung der aufs Programm gesetzten Speisen - erreicht wird und Obstsalat und Pudding verteilt werden können.
The children and their teacher are flipping through an illustrated cookbook together. They decide what to cook by asking specific questions. Two groups form, and everyone gets to work enthusiastically. Along the way, they have to figure out all sorts of practical details: what's needed to make pudding and fruit salad, whether apples and oranges need to be peeled and sliced, how much milk is required to make the pudding, and so on. Throughout this learning process, every child has the chance to put their skills to use. One of the boys in the 'fruit salad group' demonstrates a particular talent for organization; he quickly takes on the role of 'head chef,' and his instructions are accepted without a word by his classmates. Thanks to the teacher's skillful guidance, her prompts, and her unobtrusive assistance, the set goal-both the learning objective and the preparation of the dishes on the menu-is achieved, and the fruit salad and pudding can be served.
