They are spared disintegration when their identities as a journalist and a scientist are revealed, leading to them being treated as guests of honor. However, these guests soon escape, revealing the dystopian nature of the society, which boasts constant work for all, a life that feels long rather than extended, and a rigged system of equality, all under the watchful eye of a maximum leader. The film concludes with a scene of citizens being forced into manual labor, particularly in mines, and a humorous attempt to entice someone with the promise of a good time.
