Tokyo to Formosa by Philip H. Elwood, 1929

Description: Iowa State College landscape architecture professors Philip H. Elwood and Walter Popham took 4 students (Bethane Carpenter, John Hall, Max Bird, and Norman Morris) on a tour of Japan, China, the Philippine Islands, and Hawaii in 1929. This video covers highlights of the Tokyo, Shanghai, and Formosa portions of that trip. Includes footage of Kiyozumi Landscape Garden in Fukagawn Park, Tokyo, a public garden near the Meiji shrine, an English park-like lawn with dense foliage background, and a public park in Nara. Shows the Mandarin's garden in Shanghai and the Lungwah Pagoda. Highlights of Formosa include the Keelung city square and the Horai gardens.
