Description: Dr. Richard Vollin (Lugosi) is a retired surgeon who is obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe. Jean Thatcher's father, Judge Thatcher (Hinds) and beau Jerry (Matthews) implore him to perform a delicate operation to restore her to health. He reveals his growing love for Jean to her father, the Judge, who quickly discourages him from the affair. Angered, he hatches a plan when Edmond Bateman, a murderer on the run, comes to his home asking for a new face so he may live in anonymity.
