Soon the village is overrun with porcupines, so he suggests using foxes to kill the porcupines. When the foxes start stealing chickens, the villagers bring in hunters to shoot the foxes. These soldiers loot the villagers' homes and eat all of their food. After snakes are reintroduced to rid the village of soldiers, the village becomes overrun by snakes again. Finally, the man breaks the dam to flood the snakes out of the village.
