Description: Animation.; The first section is a black and white print of an originally tinted film.; In his filmography and discussion of Oskar Fischinger's work, William Moritz doubts that this film is the true Study no. 1. The film consists of three fragments found in a can which Moritz spliced together to create one film with two sections. Moritz has supplied the second section with the title Colored staffs. He assumes the letter R in the title R1 represents the word Regenbogen [rainbow].; Running speed of 18 fps is assumed.; Total running time at 24 fps: 05:28.; No date on film; date supplied from: The films of Oskar Fischinger / William Moritz.; R1 -- [Colored staffs].; Pacific Film Archive collection; non-circulating. Earth, orbs, and globes are intercut with piston-like images (staffs; Fischinger referred to these as Orgelstäbe, or "organ pipes"). Continuing in the creation metaphor, images of fire, a stylized sun, melting wax, and galaxies appear, quickly cut together. In the second section, the marching and moving staffs reappear, but tinted.; Originally on 35 mm. nitrate stock.; PFA 1604-01-795.
