Description: In a historic situation strangely paralleling our own, the reactionary Holy Alliance sent the Austrian ambassador to John Quincy Adams, our Secretary of State, with an "appeasement" proposal, to neutralize our country during a totalitarian re-conquest of the newly liberated South American republics. On the basis of a letter from Jefferson in which the father of our democracy clearly outlines the principles that should govern our country's course, President Monroe drafts his famous "doctrine," approved unanimously by the cabinet.
