Old Sussex

High chalk cliffs, wooded ridges and rolling farmlands that support an extensive and varied agriculture. The parade of advancing civilization has left many relics here—Battle Abbey (built by William, the Conqueror), Rye (target for enemy attack in IX century), Pevensey Castle (once a Roman stronghold), and the "Long Man of Wilmington," carved on the Downs by an unknown prehistoric race of men.
