Northrop YF-17 Fighter Jet Flight Test and Pilot Report (1974) | 16mm Film Scan

Description: Official United States Air Force Northrop Flight Test and Pilot Report film for the prototype lightweight fighter YF-17 "Cobra". It was the primary competition to the F-16 in the Lightweight Fighter program, which it lost out to in the end. However with the Navy's later VFAX program, it ended up being developed into the F/A-18 Hornet. Film has first hand reports by Northrop's Chief Test Pilot, Hank Chouteau, he speaks quite positively about the aircraft and its flight characteristics. From what I can tell, the film dates to 1974, however the edge date code on the film was very difficult to make out. As common for produced films of this era, it was on Eastman stock that had most entirely faded to red/magenta; corrected for color, framing, and light leak throughout entire film. Audio extracted with AEO-light, post processed with resolve fairlight FX.
