[music] welcome to another program of us farm report brought to you by members of the welcome to another program of us farm national farmers organization in this report brought to you by members of the listening area in the interest of national farmers organization in this agriculture rural business and the listening area in the interest of well-being of our nation we have as our agriculture rural business and the special guests Oren Lee Staley president well-being of our nation we have as our of the national farmers organization and special guests Oren Lee Staley president Herb Goodman grain commodity director of of the national farmers organization and the NFO ladies and gentlemen we Herb Goodman grain commodity director of appreciate the opportunity to visit with the NFO ladies and gentlemen we you again in your living rooms about the appreciate the opportunity to visit with NFO we firmly believe as we have stated you again in your living rooms about the many times that if the farmers correctly NFO we firmly believe as we have stated understood the progress that the NFO is many times that if the farmers correctly making the goals of the organization understood the progress that the NFO is that almost every farmer would making the goals of the organization immediately join the NFO we believe that that almost every farmer would every rural businessman would immediately join the NFO we believe that immediately lend the support that they every rural businessman would should behind the NFO but today we're immediately lend the support that they going to discuss several facets of the should behind the NFO but today we're progress that the organization has been going to discuss several facets of the making I have with me of course the progress that the organization has been director of our grain commodity making I have with me of course the Department but first I would like to director of our grain commodity review some of the progress that our Department but first I would like to organization has been making the reason review some of the progress that our I want to review this progress is organization has been making the reason because particularly in the areas where I want to review this progress is we first started organizing NFO many of because particularly in the areas where the farmers wonder just what happened to we first started organizing NFO many of the NFO after we first started the farmers wonder just what happened to organizing in the area although our the NFO after we first started members have remained very active and organizing in the area although our now they see those same members that members have remained very active and first joined in the early phases of our now they see those same members that collective bargaining organization they first joined in the early phases of our see those members marketing their collective bargaining organization they livestock cattle and hogs together going see those members marketing their usually to new new destinations and of livestock cattle and hogs together going course coming home many times with a usually to new new destinations and of little more money so many of the course coming home many times with a non-members are wondering just what little more money so many of the Goucher just what is the reason well non-members are wondering just what there are several reasons the first of Goucher just what is the reason well course we had to organize over a large there are several reasons the first of enough area now we could bargain course we had to organize over a large industry-wide enough area now we could bargain and after we were over a large enough industry-wide area we had to make our bargaining power and after we were over a large enough fell to the point that even the largest area we had to make our bargaining power processors and many of the medium-sized fell to the point that even the largest processors would have to recognize the processors and many of the medium-sized necessity the doing business with NFO processors would have to recognize the members in order to secure the necessary necessity the doing business with NFO volume to meet their plant needs now members in order to secure the necessary these same processors have realized many volume to meet their plant needs now times that farmers had the right to these same processors have realized many organize but most of them doubted that times that farmers had the right to farmers would ever organize to sell organize but most of them doubted that together and a bargain together but now farmers would ever organize to sell as the NFO has made its progress very together and a bargain together but now evident and the fact that we are as in as the NFO has made its progress very fo members sowing our production evident and the fact that we are as in together it means that many of the fo members sowing our production processors now are realizing that NFO together it means that many of the and its members can perform many processors now are realizing that NFO services in the meat industry that have and its members can perform many not been performed previously therefore services in the meat industry that have NFO representatives go to the various not been performed previously therefore processors in any given area and they NFO representatives go to the various say to the meat processors n fo members processors in any given area and they are going to market together they want say to the meat processors n fo members to market information as to which plant are going to market together they want or plants appear to be in a position to to market information as to which plant offer the best marketing services and so or plants appear to be in a position to then the NF o-- representatives point offer the best marketing services and so out to the plant management not at this then the NF o-- representatives point point the members need to know that the out to the plant management not at this plant has adequate facilities they need point the members need to know that the to know that the NFO members will be plant has adequate facilities they need paid on to market value in other words to know that the NFO members will be for a quality product they need to know paid on to market value in other words that the plant will be competitive price for a quality product they need to know wise and then of course other marketing that the plant will be competitive price factors that need to be discussed after wise and then of course other marketing this information has been gathered NFO factors that need to be discussed after members are then informed as to which this information has been gathered NFO plant or plants appear to be in a members are then informed as to which position to offer NFO members the best plant or plants appear to be in a marketing service and so then position to offer NFO members the best consequently NFO members have the marketing service and so then opportunity to market together to work consequently NFO members have the out their problems together and of opportunity to market together to work course always bargaining for the highest out their problems together and of possible price and at the same time course always bargaining for the highest cutting the marketing cost to the lowest possible price and at the same time possible minimum which means in most cutting the marketing cost to the lowest cases more net dollars to NFO members possible minimum which means in most and this is the reason that farmers see cases more net dollars to NFO members NFO members marketing together going to and this is the reason that farmers see new points of destination as far as NFO members marketing together going to marketing is concerned of their products new points of destination as far as now we have been telling the general marketing is concerned of their products farming public for some months that the now we have been telling the general NFO has been the basic reason for the farming public for some months that the greater than expected price rise our NFO has been the basic reason for the hogs and of course the same is largely greater than expected price rise our true as far as cattle prices are hogs and of course the same is largely concerned but hog prices are much higher true as far as cattle prices are than anyone had predicted anyone that concerned but hog prices are much higher I've ever read at least because most of than anyone had predicted anyone that the predictors and the farm publications I've ever read at least because most of were saying that hogs would reach a the predictors and the farm publications price level for about 16 dollars by were saying that hogs would reach a sometime in April 18 dollars by mid-June price level for about 16 dollars by are there abouts and they reach a peak sometime in April 18 dollars by mid-June of some twenty dollars a hundredweight are there abouts and they reach a peak sometime in August of course these of some twenty dollars a hundredweight predictions were being made back in sometime in August of course these February first part of March but we all predictions were being made back in know what happened to the hog price this February first part of March but we all is brought about by many factors but one know what happened to the hog price this of the major factors and the unknown is brought about by many factors but one factor in many people's minds is the of the major factors and the unknown fact that the NFO had put together meat factor in many people's minds is the marketing arrangements over such a large fact that the NFO had put together meat area an area that covers the marketing arrangements over such a large agricultural producing area from the area an area that covers the Pennsylvania line to the western areas agricultural producing area from the of Kansas and Nebraska and from the Pennsylvania line to the western areas Canadian border into Kentucky and of Kansas and Nebraska and from the Oklahoma on into Tennessee Georgia and Canadian border into Kentucky and some other outlying areas now this had a Oklahoma on into Tennessee Georgia and tremendous effect because his NFO some other outlying areas now this had a members started marking you together to tremendous effect because his NFO those plants which appeared at least to members started marking you together to be in a position to offer the best those plants which appeared at least to marketing service this meant that those be in a position to offer the best plants became more efficient and this is marketing service this meant that those a good part of improving marketing plants became more efficient and this is efficiency but at the same time NFO a good part of improving marketing members were able to receive the highest efficiency but at the same time NFO possible dollar and of course the plants members were able to receive the highest that were not willing to accept NFO possible dollar and of course the plants members production as such found that were not willing to accept NFO themselves out hunting through the members production as such found countries carrying the country for themselves out hunting through the supply this brought new and keen countries carrying the country for competition into the market and as one supply this brought new and keen or several the fact buyer said to NFO competition into the market and as one representatives that NFO should be given or several the fact buyer said to NFO credit for at least four dollars of the representatives that NFO should be given price rise on house and then as the credit for at least four dollars of the summer developed we knew then that price rise on house and then as the eventually some of the facts would have summer developed we knew then that to come out one of those that brought eventually some of the facts would have out the first box was mister gene hotel to come out one of those that brought or the Iowa State University Extension out the first box was mister gene hotel economist or the Iowa State University Extension who had this to say along in the latter economist part of August the usual relationships who had this to say along in the latter between hug prices and market influences part of August the usual relationships would indicate that hog prices should between hug prices and market influences have been about four dollars above the would indicate that hog prices should 1964 level in May and June instead the have been about four dollars above the gain was six to seven dollars this 1964 level in May and June instead the economist had to say and then he pointed gain was six to seven dollars this out that you usually have several market economist had to say and then he pointed influences they've always been pretty out that you usually have several market accurate on these the past and then he influences they've always been pretty said again calling on the usual accurate on these the past and then he relationships he had this to say about said again calling on the usual the quarter hog fall quarter hog prices relationships he had this to say about should average about twenty five percent the quarter hog fall quarter hog prices above the 1964 levels this would should average about twenty five percent indicate that interior prices for us above the 1964 levels this would number one three hogs two hundred to two indicate that interior prices for us hundred and forty pound butchers of a number one three hogs two hundred to two little over twenty dollars in September hundred and forty pound butchers of a while we know that the price has been little over twenty dollars in September considerably above this the Kiplinger while we know that the price has been letter which is one of the outstanding considerably above this the Kiplinger farm publications the Kiplinger letter which is one of the outstanding agricultural letter published in farm publications the Kiplinger Washington many of the farmers read it agricultural letter published in most of the economists and business men Washington many of the farmers read it associated directly or indirectly most of the economists and business men agriculture study it very carefully the associated directly or indirectly August 27th issue it had this to say on agriculture study it very carefully the hogs there seems to be a mystery as to August 27th issue it had this to say on why they went so high normal tools of hogs there seems to be a mystery as to the economists trade indicate they why they went so high normal tools of should have gone up but in major markets the economists trade indicate they they soared about two dollars more than should have gone up but in major markets they should have the national farmers they soared about two dollars more than organization it says may have been they should have the national farmers behind the sharp rise doubtless it has organization it says may have been made progress in certain areas with its behind the sharp rise doubtless it has market contracts with Packers to made progress in certain areas with its regulate flow of hogs to market for market contracts with Packers to predetermined prices some Packers say regulate flow of hogs to market for NFO made the difference predetermined prices some Packers say they tell us privately perhaps so it's NFO made the difference difficult to get a clear-cut answer they tell us privately perhaps so it's within the trade but they said that they difficult to get a clear-cut answer would study they get a dig deeper to within the trade but they said that they find more facts on it so many people would study they get a dig deeper to know the highest authority those that find more facts on it so many people have studied markets throughout the year know the highest authority those that know that there had to be a marketing have studied markets throughout the year factor that was not apparent in their know that there had to be a marketing earlier predictions and this had to be factor that was not apparent in their the NFO so this is the reason that NFO earlier predictions and this had to be members now are very happy that they're the NFO so this is the reason that NFO able to bargain together and sell members now are very happy that they're together and heard the reason we brought able to bargain together and sell this out of course today is that from together and heard the reason we brought this experience this out of course today is that from from the experience we've had in our this experience grain bargaining in the past this from the experience we've had in our sorcerer somewhat as a parallel to what grain bargaining in the past this we're doing now in grain that the grain sorcerer somewhat as a parallel to what program that is now underway and the we're doing now in grain that the grain grain program we're building on I'd like program that is now underway and the to introduce to the audience another one grain program we're building on I'd like of our key administrative personnel that to introduce to the audience another one we're very quiet proud of because the of our key administrative personnel that administrative personnel all of them are we're very quiet proud of because the farmers many of them have had very high administrative personnel all of them are educational training a good educational farmers many of them have had very high background curve I think we are you educational training a good educational ought to tell a little about yourself I background curve I think we are you know you're pretty modest started for ought to tell a little about yourself I follow but nevertheless I think you know you're pretty modest started for ought to tell a little about your follow but nevertheless I think you background because I do think that it is ought to tell a little about your very important for people to understand background because I do think that it is that the NFO is bringing together a very important for people to understand staff of people with varied backgrounds that the NFO is bringing together a all of them farmers all of them working staff of people with varied backgrounds together to assist farmers in bargaining all of them farmers all of them working so that they may get a fair price for together to assist farmers in bargaining their products herb Goodman Thank You so that they may get a fair price for Harley well I left the farm and went out their products herb Goodman Thank You to school after I was married graduated Harley well I left the farm and went out as a geological engineer from the to school after I was married graduated Colorado School of Mines and worked for as a geological engineer from the about 15 years for the Shell Oil Company Colorado School of Mines and worked for as geologists during which time I had about 15 years for the Shell Oil Company some time in the service but I was as geologists during which time I had another one of those farm boys that some time in the service but I was seemingly couldn't stay away from the another one of those farm boys that farm because in 1953 I resigned a very seemingly couldn't stay away from the good job or a position with shell and farm because in 1953 I resigned a very move back to the farm good job or a position with shell and I don't know how well that reflects on move back to the farm my judgment but at least I think the I don't know how well that reflects on farm is certainly has many many my judgment but at least I think the advantages as far as a way of life a farm is certainly has many many place to raise our most important crop advantages as far as a way of life a that is our children and certainly place to raise our most important crop agriculture is the foundation of the that is our children and certainly economy and the agriculture is the foundation of the food-producing aspect or the part of our whole nation the green program or only food-producing aspect or the part of our in many ways parallels the meat whole nation the green program or only marketing arrangements I think certainly in many ways parallels the meat at the time when the grain is positioned marketing arrangements I think certainly and is available for sale for selling to at the time when the grain is positioned processors or grain buyers either and is available for sale for selling to domestic or foreign at this point then I processors or grain buyers either think our bargaining position becomes domestic or foreign at this point then I emphasized and and pointed up because think our bargaining position becomes many farmers selling together and emphasized and and pointed up because bargaining together just simply can't many farmers selling together and help but be more effective than those bargaining together just simply can't same farmers selling and trying to help but be more effective than those bargain individually I think this is so same farmers selling and trying to right I think thinking farmer will bargain individually I think this is so understand and realize this I think your right I think thinking farmer will background is so important because it understand and realize this I think your shows that your real interest was in background is so important because it farming and sometimes it's my shows that your real interest was in observation those people that really you farming and sometimes it's my might say love farming that have had observation those people that really you experience in other fields after they might say love farming that have had come back and find out how unfair farm experience in other fields after they prices are they make the best fighters come back and find out how unfair farm because they know what happens in other prices are they make the best fighters business and so they're willing to help because they know what happens in other the doubt now I think that on the grain business and so they're willing to help program one thing it always seems odd to the doubt now I think that on the grain me is that I hear farmers talking well program one thing it always seems odd to soybeans just hit a certain price or me is that I hear farmers talking well look what the price of corn is the fact soybeans just hit a certain price or of the matter is they don't have any look what the price of corn is the fact they sold theirs at harvest times of the matter is they don't have any history so this doesn't do them very they sold theirs at harvest times much good what do you think is a real history so this doesn't do them very key to how the farmers establish their much good what do you think is a real bargaining power on grain well what's key to how the farmers establish their the basic what's the basic number one bargaining power on grain well what's step well the number one step without a the basic what's the basic number one doubt is to store and hold your grain at step well the number one step without a harvest because the very moment that you doubt is to store and hold your grain at sell that grain then you have lost your harvest because the very moment that you bargaining power sell that grain then you have lost your as far as pricing or any of the other bargaining power aspects of collective bargaining and as far as pricing or any of the other agriculture are concerned you have lost aspects of collective bargaining and that at that point you no longer have agriculture are concerned you have lost anything to sell you no longer have that at that point you no longer have anything to offer and this is why it is anything to sell you no longer have so important for every NFO member and anything to offer and this is why it is every farmer to store and hold his grain so important for every NFO member and at harvest it it's it seems utterly every farmer to store and hold his grain foolish that at the time that we are at harvest it it's it seems utterly harvesting a year's work out here that foolish that at the time that we are we turn around and sell that inside of a harvesting a year's work out here that few moments at the same time when many we turn around and sell that inside of a other farmers are selling at that same few moments at the same time when many time in other words a month to two other farmers are selling at that same months only we see a year's production time in other words a month to two here be sold by the farmers who for in months only we see a year's production one reason or another do not store and here be sold by the farmers who for in hold their grain well herd this is very one reason or another do not store and important of course we can not advise hold their grain well herd this is very the non-members what to do all we can do important of course we can not advise is tell them what the NFO members are the non-members what to do all we can do really doing and of course they have to is tell them what the NFO members are become NFO members to go to the county really doing and of course they have to meetings and get into the real become NFO members to go to the county discussion because on a 30 minute meetings and get into the real program we can't go into all the details discussion because on a 30 minute on bargaining but this is the number one program we can't go into all the details point they have to in other words they on bargaining but this is the number one they not only hurt their own bargaining point they have to in other words they power herb if they sell at harvest time they not only hurt their own bargaining they hurt everyone else's and so this power herb if they sell at harvest time means that the amount of grain that's they hurt everyone else's and so this stored at harvest time and kept in the means that the amount of grain that's ownership for the farmers in their hands stored at harvest time and kept in the is what their bargaining power now I ownership for the farmers in their hands know that you gave a lot of thought when is what their bargaining power now I you made the recommendations for our know that you gave a lot of thought when grain program I think that you recognize you made the recommendations for our that one of the points was that the grain program I think that you recognize grain farmers like any other farmers has that one of the points was that the to have income throughout the year and grain farmers like any other farmers has therefore I believe one of the points to have income throughout the year and was that after you've said okay the therefore I believe one of the points first step is that you have to keep was that after you've said okay the ownership of this at harvest time the first step is that you have to keep the next thing that you tried to devise ownership of this at harvest time the was to build a method whereby they could the next thing that you tried to devise that was they wanted to or practically was to build a method whereby they could so it picks the time of year but at the that was they wanted to or practically same time build their bargaining power so it picks the time of year but at the now how how can both of these be same time build their bargaining power accomplished with the same program home now how how can both of these be well we realize there are times during accomplished with the same program home the year when every for every member has well we realize there are times during financial obligations of one sort the year when every for every member has another that he needs to to sell part of financial obligations of one sort his production in order to meet these another that he needs to to sell part of obligations and for that reason we have his production in order to meet these designated for selling periods from obligations and for that reason we have harvest until through the total period designated for selling periods from of harvest through the following August harvest until through the total period to 15 we have made surveys and have of harvest through the following August found out that there are certain times to 15 we have made surveys and have when more members wish to sell then then found out that there are certain times during a certain time then they would when more members wish to sell then then another time and as a result we have for during a certain time then they would selling periods the first from harvest another time and as a result we have for until January the 15th the second from selling periods the first from harvest January 16th until March 15th this is a until January the 15th the second from two month selling period the third is January 16th until March 15th this is a also a two month selling period from two month selling period the third is March 16th until May 15th and the fourth also a two month selling period from selling period is three months covers March 16th until May 15th and the fourth three months from May 16th until August selling period is three months covers 15 now it seems that all of us like to three months from May 16th until August have a choice only any time that we are 15 now it seems that all of us like to faced with working together and in the have a choice only any time that we are case of our green program i think we've faced with working together and in the given the members a choice we giving case of our green program i think we've giving him a choice of when he wants to given the members a choice we giving sell what he wants to sell in the green giving him a choice of when he wants to commodity line and how much he wants to sell what he wants to sell in the green sell during each of those times i think commodity line and how much he wants to that this is is an advantage well herb i sell during each of those times i think certainly agree with you and i know that that this is is an advantage well herb i all thinking farmers would agree now i certainly agree with you and i know that think you get into the point here you've all thinking farmers would agree now i got a two month or a three month period think you get into the point here you've of time i know that much of the thought got a two month or a three month period was that you wanted some flexibility so of time i know that much of the thought that was that you wanted some flexibility so you bring this volume together and it's that conceivable that the grain trade says you bring this volume together and it's well we're not going to recognize conceivable that the grain trade says farmers right to sell together so you well we're not going to recognize had to keep some flexibility so you farmers right to sell together so you could go various ways as I know that we had to keep some flexibility so you can try to tell everybody the this part could go various ways as I know that we of the bargaining because you have to can try to tell everybody the this part keep flexible enough so that you can go of the bargaining because you have to various ways but I think it would be keep flexible enough so that you can go safe to say that certainly you always various ways but I think it would be have or almost always with any type of safe to say that certainly you always normal conditions a general price rise have or almost always with any type of from harvest time on through don't normal conditions a general price rise you've heard that this is true and then from harvest time on through don't of course then with this general price you've heard that this is true and then rise this means you're taking advantage of course then with this general price of this for one thing there is one point rise this means you're taking advantage I'd like to mention right here only that of this for one thing there is one point many people erroneously think that the I'd like to mention right here only that price of the individual commodity is many people erroneously think that the higher along in April or May or June price of the individual commodity is than what it is at harvest time but I higher along in April or May or June like to think of it this way if we would than what it is at harvest time but I take a soybean here that soybean has like to think of it this way if we would just so much oil in it and so much meal take a soybean here that soybean has in it in other words the value of that just so much oil in it and so much meal bean is established at harvest time now in it in other words the value of that why is it then that those beams are bean is established at harvest time now worth more normally long in June or July why is it then that those beams are than what they are at harvest well to worth more normally long in June or July most of us farmers we think the beans than what they are at harvest well to are more valuable but actually part of most of us farmers we think the beans that increase in what we receive is from are more valuable but actually part of the storage the interest on our that increase in what we receive is from investment and the extra handling that the storage the interest on our goes into it investment and the extra handling that so I would like for members to be able goes into it to differentiate between the value of a so I would like for members to be able crop later on in the season this to differentiate between the value of a includes many things besides just the crop later on in the season this the grain itself now there is one other includes many things besides just the thing that I would like to mention here the grain itself now there is one other and that is that the we have both a thing that I would like to mention here position in the elevator and that is that the we have both a and a position in farm now we we speak position in the elevator about these positions this means that and a position in farm now we we speak this is setting aside physically when about these positions this means that you put the grain in the elevator you this is setting aside physically when have already hauled it in there you have you put the grain in the elevator you weighed it it's been graded and that have already hauled it in there you have grain is ready to be sold so you have weighed it it's been graded and that positioned that in the elevator grain is ready to be sold so you have this is really the muscle of I think of positioned that in the elevator our grain program now because we don't this is really the muscle of I think of want to penalize a farmer that has built our grain program now because we don't on farm storage which I certainly think want to penalize a farmer that has built is very important and in order to take on farm storage which I certainly think care of areas where there isn't is very important and in order to take physically enough elevator space care of areas where there isn't available to handle this grain we also physically enough elevator space have a farm position grain stored on the available to handle this grain we also farm and here the member will designate have a farm position grain stored on the how much how many bushels of a certain farm and here the member will designate grain that he wants to sell in a certain how much how many bushels of a certain period and then he will have to deliver grain that he wants to sell in a certain this grain within a ten day period after period and then he will have to deliver this grain is sold and he is notified this grain within a ten day period after through proper channels he will have ten this grain is sold and he is notified days and to deliver that I might mention through proper channels he will have ten there is also an act of God clause in days and to deliver that I might mention this grain sales agreement covering this there is also an act of God clause in so that due to adverse weather or road this grain sales agreement covering this conditions that this will be taken into so that due to adverse weather or road consideration well that makes sense herb conditions that this will be taken into and it shows a lot of thought has gone consideration well that makes sense herb into the program now then it seems only and it shows a lot of thought has gone logical that any thinking farmer knowing into the program now then it seems only that if all the grain that is put in logical that any thinking farmer knowing position could conceivably at least be that if all the grain that is put in sold over well we are saying what is position could conceivably at least be there about six hundred main grain sold over well we are saying what is producing County or something of that there about six hundred main grain wasted right well if you had well it producing County or something of that doesn't take very long if you had 50 wasted right well if you had well it thousand bushel of just corn we'll say doesn't take very long if you had 50 or or fifty thousand bush or soybeans in thousand bushel of just corn we'll say each of of these counties it doesn't or or fifty thousand bush or soybeans in take long to get the 30 40 50 million each of of these counties it doesn't bushel grain together and to think of take long to get the 30 40 50 million one sale being made all at one time bushel grain together and to think of conceivably this way it seems to me that one sale being made all at one time anyone could realize that this is conceivably this way it seems to me that building the volume and as the volume anyone could realize that this is bills the rest of the market gets building the volume and as the volume starved and bills the rest of the market gets this is two bound to create more starved and competition in the market for the this is two bound to create more existing supply but more important as competition in the market for the your volume continues to build period existing supply but more important as after period you can get so that you can your volume continues to build period be practically the only one with any after period you can get so that you can volume source of supply and I think it's be practically the only one with any important herb why is it well I was just volume source of supply and I think it's trying to think how to say it to our important herb why is it well I was just bylaws of course prohibit us from going trying to think how to say it to our into business and I think this is fine bylaws of course prohibit us from going and this is the reason that we're not in into business and I think this is fine competition with the existing businesses and this is the reason that we're not in then tell apart then the local elevators competition with the existing businesses will play as far as the green program is then tell apart then the local elevators concerned those that are willing at will play as far as the green program is least to cooperate in handling NFO concerned those that are willing at members greens least to cooperate in handling NFO well definitely we feel that we as members greens farmers out here need the services and well definitely we feel that we as the facilities of the elevators and we farmers out here need the services and also feel that the elevators need the the facilities of the elevators and we production that the farmer raises so in also feel that the elevators need the our green program we have made the production that the farmer raises so in elevator the local elevator a part of our green program we have made the this program because of the service that elevator the local elevator a part of he does renders and we think that it this program because of the service that will be a mutual benefit only because he does renders and we think that it this is what he is set up to do and it's will be a mutual benefit only because we don't intend to require the elevator this is what he is set up to do and it's to do anything that is not the normal we don't intend to require the elevator trade or normal practice with him this to do anything that is not the normal would this we feel is very important if trade or normal practice with him this we are going to have the cooperation of would this we feel is very important if these agencies or these facilities that we are going to have the cooperation of we would like well heard well the these agencies or these facilities that program then is based around first our we would like well heard well the County green bargaining committees the program then is based around first our elected NFO members and their counties County green bargaining committees the go into the local elevators see if they elected NFO members and their counties will you have the storage facilities go into the local elevators see if they available here for to handle the will you have the storage facilities imposition grain in the elevator or take available here for to handle the care of us that comes in off the farm imposition grain in the elevator or take now then the next thing is of course care of us that comes in off the farm that as these sales are made it means now then the next thing is of course that they that as these sales are made it means farmers then will be paid and of course that they they don't turn the warehouse receipt farmers then will be paid and of course over although they have to sign a sales they don't turn the warehouse receipt agreement so it's in order for somebody over although they have to sign a sales to have authority to sell but showing on agreement so it's in order for somebody dolly they realize that nobody's going to have authority to sell but showing on to sell less than the market price for dolly they realize that nobody's going the given day and they're writing the to sell less than the market price for normal price trend up then I think it's the given day and they're writing the important that they know that they do normal price trend up then I think it's not have to turn the warehouse receipt important that they know that they do over until the grain is sold they keep not have to turn the warehouse receipt that then until the grain is sold and over until the grain is sold they keep then when the grain is sold and they get that then until the grain is sold and paid shortly after that on the basis of then when the grain is sold and they get the whole set of the entire sale isn't paid shortly after that on the basis of that right there true this is true the whole set of the entire sale isn't actually the time from the time limit or that right there true this is true not limit but the time that he lapses actually the time from the time limit or from that from when they deliver the not limit but the time that he lapses warehouse receipt until they're paid from that from when they deliver the certainly shouldn't be over three or warehouse receipt until they're paid four days and a week at the most and certainly shouldn't be over three or then their paint right there at the four days and a week at the most and elevators is great so they know before then their paint right there at the their grain then really leaves there elevators is great so they know before that they have got the money for this is their grain then really leaves there great and of course the important thing that they have got the money for this is is that this sales should because of great and of course the important thing volume get a little more in price should is that this sales should because of save some marketing costs but the volume get a little more in price should important thing is that on the grain save some marketing costs but the program by these volume sales that this important thing is that on the grain is building their bargaining power to program by these volume sales that this meet their problems what grains are is building their bargaining power to going to be included in these imposition meet their problems what grains are sales herb will actually work we're going to be included in these imposition covering pretty much so they all of the sales herb will actually work we're grains we realize that some of those are covering pretty much so they all of the only of you might say local arm grains we realize that some of those are importance or in a relatively small area only of you might say local arm but to those members in those areas they importance or in a relatively small area are a very important grain so we have but to those members in those areas they some 12 or 13 different types of grain are a very important grain so we have or classes of grain for instance several some 12 or 13 different types of grain kinds of wheat and the white and yellow or classes of grain for instance several corn and this goes right on down the kinds of wheat and the white and yellow line but we wish to cover as many of the corn and this goes right on down the grains as we practically can oh they'll line but we wish to cover as many of the have to contact their local county NFO grains as we practically can oh they'll grain bargaining committees to get the have to contact their local county NFO details or sources as to where the grain bargaining committees to get the elevators are located that our details or sources as to where the participating and the imposition sales elevators are located that our are taking participating and the imposition sales the imposition sales as far as NFO is are taking concerned now I think that it might be the imposition sales as far as NFO is important herb to touch on the fact that concerned now I think that it might be just just how important is it for important herb to touch on the fact that farmers to establish their bargaining just just how important is it for power well the success of any program farmers to establish their bargaining such as our grain program or our meat power well the success of any program marketing arrangements or any program of such as our grain program or our meat a similar nature that way is entirely marketing arrangements or any program of dependent upon the cooperation and the a similar nature that way is entirely participation of the members we are only dependent upon the cooperation and the going to get out of as much of this participation of the members we are only program as much as we put into it and going to get out of as much of this this is why it is so very important that program as much as we put into it and the members attend their County meetings this is why it is so very important that or regular County monthly meetings in the members attend their County meetings order to keep abreast of what is taking or regular County monthly meetings in place not only in the grain commodity order to keep abreast of what is taking department but in the meat and the dairy place not only in the grain commodity commodity departments as well on me well department but in the meat and the dairy herb I think that you were able to give commodity departments as well on me well some hints and to the NFO members about herb I think that you were able to give some of the problems that were to be some hints and to the NFO members about expected at harvest time only NFO some of the problems that were to be members knew about these problems and I expected at harvest time only NFO think this is very important we hear members knew about these problems and I almost everyone talking about farmers think this is very important we hear need bargaining power I wonder what almost everyone talking about farmers those people that say farmers need need bargaining power I wonder what bargaining power really mean simply they those people that say farmers need must mean for farmers to establish bargaining power really mean simply they bargaining power they must work together must mean for farmers to establish collective bargaining and agriculture bargaining power they must work together means farmers bargaining together and collective bargaining and agriculture sewing together that's all collective means farmers bargaining together and bargaining means and so this is the sewing together that's all collective opportunity now NFO has the program the bargaining means and so this is the structure the scope and the experience opportunity now NFO has the program the to successfully now conclude its structure the scope and the experience collective bargaining program that will to successfully now conclude its help farmers producing all commodities collective bargaining program that will all they have to do is take advantage of help farmers producing all commodities the historic records of the United all they have to do is take advantage of States government proved conclusively the historic records of the United that farm prices must be in balance with States government proved conclusively wages and interest costs in order to that farm prices must be in balance with have a fully operating economy
