Description: Barney Ross wins the welterweight championship in the 1930s, then meets chorus girl Cathy Holland as he celebrates. He gets Cathy to marry him before leaving for the South Pacific, where he saves another soldier's life. But he also contracts malaria, for which a medic prescribes morphine. Barney is now addicted to morphine and incurs a huge debt to a drug pusher. He vows to beat his addiction.
