Description: See how the everyday car was built nearly a century ago, from the rubber to the road in this 1929 silent film. Processing steel, forming crankshafts, fenders, tires and more. I believe the car in the intro animation to be a 1928 or 29 Packard, and the car preceding the rubber section may be a 1929 Buick? Not quite sure. The overhead shot at 10:52 shows a billboard that appears to say "4 Wheel Brakes" "Whippet", which would be of the Overland-Willys company. At the very end, we get a couple shots of the rare Pickwick Nite Coach, a double-decker long distance bus. While the film is missing the title, I found a matching description of this film in a catalog: "The Automobile (1) Traces production and use of iron, rubber, glass and gasoline in the automobile." The 1 means a single 400 ft reel, and I take it the writer assumed iron was a synonym for steel. Produced by Eastman Teaching Films.
