Description: These silent newsreels were created by Off Network Productions, a New York company created by producer and media magnate Gerald Bartell, using an archive compiled by Merton Koplin. The company distributed these films to TV stations around the United States, where they were used as fillers, and to present historical events and personalities to the public. Bartell referred to the films as a "visual encyclopedia". 0:00 Film 0880: Elephant stunts! At a golf club, a trained elephant is wandering the course. Most likely in Florida, which was the winter home for the Barnum and Bailey Circus. At 1:12, elephants parade in a circle for delighted children, and one attempts to play a piano. At 1:43, an elephant moves a perambulator with a child on board. 2:28 Film 0881: Visiting a zoo circa 1930, a sign says "Feed the Sea Lions". A petting zoo is also seen complete with ducks, lambs, pigs, etc. 4:27 Film 0882. Unusual Winter fun sports, circa 1940, including outdoor ice skating, barrel jumping, etc. At 5:22, a cowboy pulls tourists on waterskis across a frozen mountain. At 5:48, women in swimsuits sunbathe on top of a snowy mountain top. Flowers are put in their hair. At 6:03, Polar Bear Club type exercises. 6:22 Film 0883 Winter in a traditional Dutch village, with wooden sabots or clogs removed and replaced by ice skates. At 7:50, a Dutch parade in the springtime includes a float shaped like a wooden clog. 8:47 Film 0884 --- Marriage in Europe. First, a French church welcomes those about to be married with a sign that reads, "Bienvenue aux Célibataires" translating to "welcome singles". Followed by images of the groom with two cups pinned to his chest, indicating the start of a new partnership. At 9:46, a German pub or Oktoberfest celebration is shown, with huge pints of beer being served by waiters. 11:06 Film 0885: Trained dogs and cats perform various stunts to an amazed crowd, including a dog that can vault over a wall, a horse riding dog, and more. At 12:54, a man blows into a tuba and a cat emerges. 13:26 Film 0886 Matador / bull fight in an arena in Spain. 15:38 Film 0888 Lions are shown in cages, possibly at Gay's Lion Farm in Los Angeles. Straw hats are thrown at the lions as part of the act. 17:53 Film ???? Floats from the New York City Thanksgiving / Macy's Parade are shown circa 1940. These include a Gulliver float likely from 1939, and many other fabulous floats.
