Description: How combined first and second grades of a liberal private school learned to read with a particular teacher who stresses beginners' curiosity and enthusiasm rather than concentrating on the mechanics of reading. In the film reading is seen as the culmination of a long process of establishing communication. A candid approach shows activities of the children to convey some of the spontaneity and serendipity of this style of teaching.
