Immigration to America

This educational film from 1970 examines the contrasting experiences of ethnic groups arriving in the United States.

By comparing the forced migration of Africans through the transatlantic slave trade with the voluntary immigration of Irish, Italian, and Asian communities, the footage highlights both shared challenges—such as prejudice and economic hardship—and critical systemic differences. The film explores the socio-economic conditions that allowed generations of European-American and Asian-American families to gradually improve their economic standing, while systemic barriers continually restricted upward mobility for African-Americans.
