Falling Water (1960s)

[Music] deep in a forest Glenn in the mountains of the Eastern United States world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to build a house facing these Falls but his pension for drama dictated that he placed the house directly over the falls he called it falling [Music] water over 35 years ago in an age when great segments of land were being ravaged and sacrificed in the name of man's progress the work of Frank Lloyd Wright were becoming prophetic statements of what mankind might [Music] achieve falling water was designed to destroy as little of the natural surroundings as possible and it became recognized as a classic Masterpiece before it was completed in retaining as many natural elements as possible Frank Lloyd Wright's design is in visual harmony with its surroundings and assumes an unsurpassed loveliness throughout all [Music] seasons four fingers of concrete and steel clutch the huge Boulders and Rise dramatically to the long cever Terraces which seem to float in space the suspended staircase leading to the pool below is an aesthetic statement of the relationship of the house with its [Music] surroundings a great many of the homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright contained natural elements trees streams and natural stone within their walls the great Stone chimney envelops this massive Boulder that pierces the floor this stone for forms a low smooth perch for the warm and inviting [Music] heart walls of glass tempting the eye continually back to the living mural outside steps of native Granite lead to the [Music] bedrooms each of these rooms opens up upon its own Terrace overlooking the forest for its own unique view of the Rocks below to ensure the proper preservation of falling water its owner Edgar J calman Jr gave the house and its vast acreage of nature sanctuary to the people of the United States through this bequest Frank Lloyd wri's tribute to the preservation of Nature has become a shrine for not only students of architecture but thousands of ecology minded Americans from all walks of life this skillful blending of concrete stone and steel in a setting of water Rock and Forest will preserve falling water as a monument and inspiration to Future Generations
