your window on the world now Kodak through photography brings you this edition of the screen News [Music] Digest the crisis begins when Revolution rocks the Dominican Republic United States ships and ples rushed Marines and paratroopers to the capital city of Santa Domingo to protect and evacuate Americans citizen it is the first such Landing in a Latin American country since 1926 and it is made only after Dominican authorities declare that American lives are in danger and their safety can no longer be assured by ship and by helicopter thousands of Americans are evacuated from Strife torn Santo Domingo citizens from 46 other countries are also transported to safety all tell of Terror in the streets of the [Music] city the American forces seeking to establish a neutral International Zone in Santa Domingo are soon caught in the crossfire between the Revolutionary and counterrevolutionary [Applause] forces when evidence appeared years that Communists have seized control of the Rebel movement the United States moves quickly President Johnson tells the world The American Nation cannot must not and will not permit the establishment of another communist government in the Western Hemisphere supporting words with Deeds 20,000 American troops are rushed to Sant Domingo they come under renewed attack before a shaky seeks fire is achieved the United States declares its neutrality in the revolt and refuses political or diplomatic recognition to either side Colonel Francisco kamano Deno leader of the Rebel forces proclaims himself constitutional president kamano insists that his regime is the legitimate successor to the government of of the Dominican Republic's last freely elected President Juan BOS who was overthrown by a military coup in 1963 the rebel leader denies opposition charges that his movement is communist control the counterrevolutionaries called the J are led by General Antonio imbert barreras who insists on the acceptance of a military government until free elections can be held although some gentle members are civilians it is primarily a military organization in an attempt to find a peaceful settlement to the dispute the organization of American states meets in Washington after discussion debate and deliberation the representatives of the 20 Nations present agreed to the establishment of an interamerican military force to supervise the Sea Fire in the Dominican Republic it is an historic decision Costa Rica and Honduras are the first Latin American nations to dispatch troops to Santa Domingo Nicaragua Brazil and Paraguay also provide recruits for the peace Force as the OAS troops ared the United States begins withdrawing its troops and pledges its support for a democratic Dominican constitution in addition to the peace Force the OAS sends a diplom diplomatic missions to mediate the dispute between the Juna and rebel forces talks are held with Colonel kamanu and General in at last the settlement is reached naming Hector Garcia Godoy as provisional president until free Democratic elections can be held in May 1966 while the diplomats seek to make the ceasefire a permanent peace other men and women guar out other equally vital missions the sick and wounded are cared for and ministered to all are treated no one is turned [Music] away food is also provided for families made hungry by the unrest in the Dominican Republic minds are WR but everyone who comes is given a supply of food life must be sustained hope provided for the day when peace returns to the Dominican Republic and to her people [Music] never in the field of human conflict when so much owed by so many to no [Music] few June 1940 an Airfield somewhere in England of the royal Air Force take to the sky in Britain's darkest and yet finest Hour France has fallen and Adolf Hitler himself will accept the surrender at compen speaking from The Forest of compen where Adolf Hitler today is handing his Armistice terms to France it is 3:15 p.m. Adolf Hitler stride slowly toward the little clearing I can see his face this grave solemn yet brimming with Revenge off to one side is a large statue of Marshal fo Hitler does weeks 200 German bombers and more defy anti-aircraft guns and aak fire to sweep over London and deliver their deadly cargo the enemy aircraft set as many as 1,000 fires in a single range but London is air to 900 years of freedom and though she is a holocaust she will not die 50,000 civilians are killed 60,000 more are seriously wounded in the London Blitz England has paid a dreadful price for her years of appeasement night after night 10,000 people are are made homeless by the hammering from the heavens London becomes a city of cave dwellers and yet each morning London gets up digs out and Carries On we have not flinched or wavered says Winston Churchill alone we have defied the Tyrant at the height of his power and now England is ready to answer [Music] [Applause] back the runways of the military airfields Echo to the Roar of British Spitfires as RAF pilots carry the challenge and the combat to the enemy in the heavens over the British Isles and the continent the cream of England's and Germany's youth meet in aerial combat like of which has never been seen before and will never be seen again in these first frantic months the RAF has barely a thousand men to storm the ramparts of Adolf Hitler's Fortress Europe and in 2 weeks almost 1/4 of these Airmen are lost but Replacements are found for men and PLS and the Pendulum of aerial superiorities swings slowly from the German to the British [Music] [Applause] side with control of the Skies the RAF bombers are able to reach and pinpoint strategic Targets in the heart of Nazi Germany the ordeal of London is a ventage [Music] the returning aircraft wear the scars of battle as they streak for home the White Cliffs of Dober are at last safe from Invasion the RAF has fought and won the Epic Battle of Britain [Music] courage and devotion bravery and daring have triumphed over might and numbers and the men of the RAF are in Victory modest and quiet Heroes oh well back again yes we ran into a bunch of about 50 of them today what sort well about uh 30 bombers and uh about 20 escorting Fighters I think cigarett just nice what you do did you get anything well we were detailed for the fighters actually up above and uh I got to S 110 oh nice work saw the two chaps bail out mhm there yes and one of their parachutes unfortunately or fortunately didn't open ahuh well I think a cup of tea is indicated now and you right the tide of war in Europe has turned the famous few have kept their Rendevous with Destiny and now they can take their place in history 25 years later in 1965 England pauses to remember and honor the men who served and saved their country in World War [Music] II Queen Elizabeth leads a grateful nation in Memorial services at Westminster AB the British monarch unveils a plaque paying tribute to the late Winston Churchill and the pilots of the [Music] ra the danger the devastation of 1940 seem only a nightmare a bad dream as a hym of remembrance ech goes through the hallowed Abbey [Music] [Applause] as the memorial service comes to an end the queen speaks first with Lady Churchill and her son [Music] Randolph then Elizabeth passes down the row of the ribboned and be medled Veterans of the royal Air Force the hair is grayer and thinner the faces older the steps slower but love of Freedom love of grim remain undimmed and [Music] changed pilots and Gunners Gators and bombardiers each is a hero and each is the queen as she makes her way from the am in life
