Description: Description: In 1932, with colonial powers governing India, Singapore, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, a pair of European men tour these locations, as well as Panama, viewing the sites with a colonial gaze, yet turning their camera toward the architecture, commerce, street scenes, and peoples of these places including laborers, fishermen, pedestrians, people engaged in religious activity, and in the activities of everyday life such as cooking and street commerce, documenting aspects of southeast Asia between two world wars that are scarcely seen. Also with a stop in Los Angeles and a brief tourist's eye on Hollywood. Filmed on Kodacolor lenticular film, an extinct color process that contemporary technology reproduces as vertical striations in a black and white image.
