Noted artist, Frank W. Benson, begins by transferring a pencil sketch by pressure to the coated and smoked surface of a copper plate. Then, delicate tools cut through the coating, exposing the copper along the lines of the drawing. Floods finished plate with acid to etch lines into the copper. Cleans plate, inks it, and pulls proof.
