Description: Gabin flees Paris, where in self defense or otherwise he killed a man. He joins the Foreign Legion. He meets LeVigan, whom he suspects of being a police spy. To get away from Le Vigan, Gabin asks for a transfer to Morocco. There he meets Annabella and marries her. Again LeVigan appears on the scene and becomes enamored of Gabin's wife. Gabin confides in Annabella his suspicions and later has those suspicions verified. The two are assigned to a dangerous outpost. Annabella gives Gabin a piece of gold to take along with him. At the isolated fortress the men fight the enemy (the Riffs) desperately, but are overwhelmed. Only Gabin and LeVigan survive. They become friends. Just as relief comes to them Gabin is killed. LeVigan returns to Morocco and there gives Annabella the piece of gold Gabin has promised to keep as long as he lived. (Recommended for curriculum enrichment.)
