Description: Shows different types of coal waste deposits, or dams, and how they are formed. Actual scenes taken after the Buffalo Creek, W. VA., Flood disaster (caused by the failure of a water impoundment and coal refuse dump) are shown. Investigations and evaluations aided the Bureau in determining any immediate, or imminent, hazards to mine employees, or people living nearby, and were used to recommend any corrective measures considered necessary for protection of lives and property.
