Maureen nervously prepares for a dinner party, hoping to impress her wealthy, pedigree-obsessed husband, Richard, by hosting her eccentric and unpretentious cousin Iris, a retired nurse. As Iris arrives by bus and regales the couple with colorful stories from her past and her upcoming adventures, Richard grows increasingly disdainful of her working-class background. The visit serves as a catalyst for Maureen, laying bare the emotional divide between her humble roots and her marriage, ultimately signaling the quiet, definitive end of their relationship.
