Description: This is the tragic story of Margaret Stevens, the cruelly repressed daughter of a nagging, shrewish woman. Her home life is in sharp contrast to that of her closest friends, the Kirby sisters, who enjoy a happy, normal comradeship with their mother. As Margaret grows up the situation becomes increasingly worse, for Mrs. Stevens demands the same unquestioning obedience from the girl of twenty that she exacted from the child of ten. Finally, her mother's suspicious attitude, coupled with her complete lack of tenderness and understanding, completely unnerve Margaret. She returns home from an evening of wholesome fun a few minutes after the hour set by her mother for her arrival, only to find herself locked out. Completely unnerved by her mother's suspicious attitude and lack of understanding, she climbs to the roof, to make use of the fire escape in getting into her home. In stepping down the ladder, she slips and falls to her death—the victim of an unhappy home situation.
