Boeing B-52 Stratofortress Structural Test

Year Published: 1952

Creator: Boeing

Sound: silent

Description: Silent film for the structural test of the wings of the then in-development Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber. Starts off with scale model demonstrations, then moving onto the real thing; applying massive amounts of force to the wings with a complex hydraulic system until catastrophic failure. The label on this canister reads: Title: B-52 Structural Test Class: -Confidential- Unc Type: 16mm B&W Silent Print Length: 147 feet 4 minutes m/p 248 It appears that the flight footage was spliced on to the end after a later date, as its different stock, and it would only be ~4mins without that footage - I presume its one of the first 1952 test flights. Film contrast/brightness was all over the place, graded to improve best I could.
