Many of these pilots have seen combat in World War II, Korea or even Vietnam. When they return to civilian life, they kept on flying for their country in the Air Guard. They fly on their own time after their civilian job is done. But that's a measure of these men. Men who are doing a job vital to America's welfare even though it demands most of their free time. There are rewards in the Guard of course. Rewards like friendships with men who have the same professional interests. Men who share the pure enjoyment of flying. But whatever a man's personal reasons may be for continuing to serve his country as an Air National Guard pilot, we can be mighty grateful. America will always need that kind of American. [/]
