Description: In 1971, Amedeo Battipaglia, a lineman in the remote New South Wales settlement of Bun Bun Ga, is about to meet Carmela, his prospective bride from Rome. Each of them misrepresented facts to the other — Carmela is a semiliterate prostitute seeking an opportunity to get away from her abusive pimp, with the letters ghostwritten by her friend Rosalba. The long trip to Broken Hill continues, they become better acquainted and she learns of his hardships as an immigrant.
