He paints a star on it and the box becomes magic, repeating the words Joyeux Noël/Merry Christmas. Despite the holiday celebrations in the street, the old man remains cold and hungry. At night, the box becomes magical, and the old man's ghost rises into the heavens along with the painted star on the box.
