Description: These silent newsreels were created by Off Network Productions, a New York company created by producer and media magnate Gerald Bartell, using an archive compiled by Merton Koplin. The company distributed these films to TV stations around the United States, where they were used as fillers, and to present historical events and personalities to the public. Bartell referred to the films as a "visual encyclopedia". 0:00 Film 0773: Igor Benson's Giro Glider aka Bensen B-8 personal helicopter is demonstrated, followed by Igor Benson's flying boat at Cypress Gardens, Florida. Igor Benson was a renowned inventor who tested his unique "helicopter boat" or "copter boat" at Cypress Gardens, Florida, in the 1950s. The boat was a 14-foot Yellow Jacket runabout that could hover using a helicopter-like rotor, allowing it to "sail" on both land and water. Benson founded Bensen Aircraft, a company which produced a successful line of gyrogliders (rotor kites) and autogyros. 1:54 Film 0775: English fox and rabbit hunt with men on horseback. 3:30 Film 0776: Bizarre basketball including women playing on roller skates, and men playing on horseback. 4:41 Film 07xx Comical hockey or soccer game played with automobiles circa 1950s, followed by women in small canoes playing a form of basketball with oars, in the pool of a resort hotel. 6:29 Film 0789 Unusual Races circa 1940s, including men carrying stacks of baskets on their heads, and pool sharps pushing white balls with pool cues on a closed race course. Also shows experimental rubber tire Jeep models including one with the so-called puncture proof Melon Tire, which is made of nylon neoprene called a "rollagon". 15:00 Film 0797: Pet lions are seen getting into a sportscar, in a supermarket, and in a woman's home. 16:38 Film 0798: Acrobats are shown performing at a dinner or nightclub, including a man doing a high wire act and another balancing on a ladder. The segment also includes an underwater dinner with plenty of ladies in swimsuits, circa 1940s. 18:27 Film 07xx: A trained chimp goes to the dentist, and operates a camera to take a family portrait circa 1950.
