Es ist spät und die Frage, ob man zeitig genug zum Bahnhof kommt, spielt während des gesamten Films eine Rolle. Die Armbanduhr der Mutter blieb stehen, die Küchenuhr geht nach, Zeitansage im Telefon und Radio werden befragt. Endlich hat die Mutter die passenden Schuhe und den gewünschten Hut gefunden. Tom ruft ein Taxi herbei, und man verlässt das kleine Vorstadthaus. Der Weg führt schließlich durch die Stadt am Rande des Hyde Parks entlang. Das Taxi bleibt im Verkehr an einer Kreuzung stecken und reihum die Autobesitzer werden nach der richtigen Zeit befragt. Endlich trifft man am Waterloo Bahnhof ein. Am Fahrkartenschalter erfährt die Mutter, dass das häusliche Kursbuch einen veralteten Fahrplan enthielt, und der Zug jetzt eine halbe Stunde später abfährt. Die Aufregung war also umsonst, aber die Mutter kann es noch nicht glauben, dass nun Zeit genug ist, und Tom muss zum Schluss die Zuschauer fragen, wie spät es ist. A mother and her ten-year-old son Tom want to travel to Portsmouth. It is late and the question of whether they will get to the station early enough plays a role throughout the movie. The mother's wristwatch has stopped, the kitchen clock is running late, the time on the phone and the radio are consulted. Finally, the mother has found the right shoes and the desired hat. Tom calls a cab and they leave the small suburban house. The route finally leads through the city along the edge of Hyde Park. The cab gets stuck in traffic at a junction and the car owners are asked in turn for the right time. Finally they arrive at Waterloo station. At the ticket office, the mother learns that the domestic timetable was out of date and the train is now leaving half an hour later. So all the excitement was for nothing, but the mother still can't believe that there's enough time now, and Tom has to ask the audience what time it is at the end. Oh, there's now one more time. Nearly half pass. We're going to be late. There's plenty of time now. Oh no, there isn't. Are you ready? Yes. Don't keep me waiting. I think my watch has stopped. Tom, what time did you say it was? It's half. My what says quart 9. Come and put it right for me while I finish doing my hair. I don't ever mind it. 9 half 94 to 10 to 10 to 10. 4 minutes for 10. 3 minutes for 10. 2 minutes for 10. 1 minute for 10. 10:00. You stop hanging about, Tom. 10:15 10:30 10:45. 11:00 precisely. 11:15. 11:30. 11:30. There you are. It must be after. You said it was 11:30 when I asked you to do a few minutes ago. I'll make sure. I think that clock in the kitchen is slow. Slow. M. It's probably fast. Well, fast or slow, it's not right, is it? I think you better ring up and find out what the right time is. We miss that train. We'll have to wait a whole hour for the next one. 11:33. Oh, what's the time, Tom? 11:33 precisely. What time did you say the train was? 12:10, I think. I think it said 10 12. Was it 20? Cuz it was 12:20. I'm not sure now. Anyway, we ought to go because of the traffic. Just look at the time table. Let's make sure. [Music] The train needs a tent top. We protect from it to get here. Then go out and find one. [Applause] [Music] Hey, [Music] [Applause] wait a moment. Tell my mother. Where too? Waterlue station. It is just a4 to 12 11:45. It can't be. It is. You know, what time's your train, Mrs. 1210? 10 minutes past 12. We've only got about 20 minutes to get there. You have to hurry. But you didn't hurry before you ordered this [Music] care. We left so late. The first time. Can I get a comic to me? Huh? There won't be time. We'll have to buy the ticket and [Music] run. 6 noon. We've got 10 minutes. We'll be all right. [Music] [Music] Next time I'll get the ticket beforehand and you won't have to hurry. [Music] It stopped again. What? Now watch this. Just after 11. I set the hands at 11:33 and I wind it up for you. I'm sure you overwhelmed it. I'm sure I didn't. Just the sort of thing you would do. But I didn't wind it. I saw you. I only set the hands. You command it yourself. What time do you make it, please? I don't make the time. God makes the time. This is What time is it, please? I don't know. I have no watch. [Music] Have you got the right time, [Music] please? Got the time. My watch may be fast, but I make it 2 minutes past. I'll just make sure. Any idea of the time? Nearly 5, I think. It's nearly 5, isn't it? I would say it's exactly 4 minutes past the hour. Is that the right time? My watch never loses a minute or gains a minute. Do you mind making sure? You don't need to, but I will. Sorry to tell you, but have you the right time? Yes. [Applause] [Music] One and a half day returns to Portsouth, please. What platform does the 1210 go from? There's no train at 10. There hasn't been for 2 months now. The time table said there was one. What are we going to do now? We're going to be terribly late. Your time table must be out of date. The train leaves more than half an hour later now at 9 minutes to 1. So, you're in time. Can I get a comic and then carry an orange squash? I mean, we've got time. There's plenty of time now. Is there a clock anywhere? Thank you, Potma. Is it right? Is it right?
