The film attempts to provide an introduction to the problems of adolescence from the perspective of the 1960s and from an adult point of view. Various examples are used to illustrate friendships between boys and girls that are met with varying degrees of understanding or incomprehension in their parents' homes. Alternative ways for parents to behave are shown; the commentary clearly warns against certain parenting mistakes: excessive strictness, laissez-faire, narcissistic projection.
