Der Film begleitet den kleinen Familienzirkus Apollo durch das ländliche Deutschland. Die Artisten sind die Kinder des Ehepaars Köllner. Florina, die 19-jährige Seiltänzerin steht im Vordergrund des Films. Aus ihrer Perspektive entwickelt sich die Beschreibung des Alltags der Zirkuskinder. Der seit 300 Jahren bestehende Circus Apollo gehört Harald Köllner. Seine Kinder Florina, Marina, Christiane und Harald jun. sind die Artisten. Durch die ständige Reisetätigkeit können die Kinder die Schule nicht regelmäßig besuchen und haben somit keine Chance, in einem anderen Beruf zu arbeiten. Sie müssen beim Circus bleiben. Ihr größter Wunsch ist, einmal Ferien und Freizeit zu haben.

The film follows the small family circus Apollo through rural Germany. The artists are the children of the Köllner couple. Florina, the 19-year-old tightrope walker is in the foreground of the film. From her perspective, the description of the circus children's everyday life develops. The Circus Apollo, which has existed for 300 years, belongs to Harald Köllner. His children Florina, Marina, Christiane and Harald Jr. are the artists. Due to the constant traveling, the children cannot attend school regularly and thus have no chance to work in another profession. They have to stay with the circus. Their greatest wish is to have vacations and free time for once.
