Die Neandertaler jagten ihr gefährlichstes Jagdtier, den mächtigen Höhlenbären. Der Film gibt einen Einblick in die Anfänge gesellschaftlichen Handelns in der Jägergruppe. Er beschreibt das Leben einer nomadisierenden Jägerhorde der Steinzeit, vor allem anhand von Funden aus dem Neandertal und der Bärenhöhle. Mit Hilfe von Rekonstruktionen und Demonstrationen entsteht ein sehr anschauliches Bild steinzeitlicher Arbeitstechniken. The film first shows and explains the Neanderthal's environment and tools.
