driving to school there he is a teacher at the school and this bus passenger is Miss Park he is thinking about her lessons for the day because she too is a teacher Mavis is unlocking her cupboard the other girls are arranging flowers they like coming to school so does Peter now he is cleaning the Blackboard John is putting the inkwells into the desk and but his friends are not working so hard tonight what part did you type in well right now let's die can you think now the jobs have been done and the children will go to morning prayers in the school hall the Headmaster greets the children good morning girls and boys the service this morning will be taken by Barbara and Roger beloved let us love one another for love is a skull and everyone that love it is born of God and know it's gone himself while the other children are using pearls to measure the height of the hall or are measuring angles on the floor thank you these are lessons in Practical arithmetic and geometry and the children like them best of all that was Miss Nettles class now we are looking into Miss Wilson's class her pupils are listening attentively to what she is dictating now it is break the children get free milk to drink Robert is handing out drinking straws John and Peter are fighting this is the school playground some children are climbing up the bars oh look Becky is hanging upside down some of the children are playing some are fighting each other wild fruits be fully eats the biscuit now the children are running out to the playing field the pupils at Beechwood School are eight from seven to 11 years old they go to school six days a week from nine in the morning until four o'clock in the afternoon but they have at least two free afternoons a week there's master in the start from Mary have just brought him a cup of tea the other teachers are also drinking cups of tea Miss Wilson is marking the exercise books in which the pupils have written their homework two of the teachers are talking about what they will do in their next lesson the school bell rings break is over and all the children return to their classes this is Miss Park's class of nine-year-olds the lesson this time is English composition on Sunday Miss Park drew some pictures of people for her class to describe she starts with a picture of a farmer with a sign the girls and boys listen attentively what is he doing what you doing today he's catching the corn yeah why did he think to cut the corn what do we call this piece of Machinery that he's got here no it's not the same she started with the right letter yeah that's better I would like it if you said that the lesson is nearly over there is the school bell now it is time for dinner in the dining hall teachers and school children eat together every day foreign features see to it that the children behave properly a table because some of the children eat as quickly as they can so that there will be plenty of time to play afterwards the children take it in turns to serve the meal for their School Fellows each boy and girl learns to take over responsibility to lend a helping hand to think of other people the children not only learn Reading Writing and arithmetic but how to live with one another desert is now being served now the tables are being cleaned soon dinner will be over and then there'll be time to play before school begins in the afternoon [Music] the cards are flicked with the wrist and should land as close as possible to one another then they are picked up again and sorted ready for the next game lessons have begun again this is Mrs horsman's art class for eight-year-olds the children are working in groups they are painting a picture for the walls when Susan has finished painting her picture of a fish it will be cut out and stuck onto jam and Phillips painting of under the sea this insect has been painted by John and will be stuck onto the spider's web of Mavis and Jeffrey are painting the children may paint anything they like but they soon find that it is more fun to join together on one big picture Mrs horsman of course helps the pupils and give them advice when it is needed but she finds that they usually have enough ideas of Their Own like Johnny for instance who is painting a top hat on his picture of a snail this is a knife class of 11 year olds at the moment a reading that he is going on the first part of the lesson is over the textbooks have been put away and the children have chosen the books they like best from the school library or brought them from home tonight willingly helps those pupils who still find reading difficult [Music] that was exactly halfway between the hilltop and the farm now I will never reach home in time the fire was almost upon himself comes at the end of Monday afternoon lessons are over the children are leaving the school but some of the teachers and their pupils still have things to do Miss Wilson is in charge of athletic sports she always gives her children good advice so that they will one day break their own records at running high jump or long jump Leslie and Vernon have stayed behind to help Mr Knight get the stage ready for the school concert the two boys are very glad to help this product is rehearsing her recorder group who will also take part in the school concert but now it is time to go home everyone has done enough for one morning at nine o'clock then this empty Corridor and the empty classrooms will be full of life again Colin and John Susan and Judith will be sitting at their desk listening to Mr Knight or Miss Park
