Es beginnt häufig damit, dass die Eltern die Hausaufgaben ihrer Kinder machen, setzt sich fort beim Aussuchen der Freunde für die Kinder und in der gelenkten Berufswahl und gipfelt im Versuch der gelenkten Partnerwahl. An angry argument between the 13-year-old daughter Susi and her mother about a dress that meets the mother's expectations but not those of the daughter raises the issue of paternalism. It often begins with the parents doing their children's homework, continues with the choice of friends for the children and the controlled choice of career and culminates in the attempt to control the choice of partner.
