Vor dem Schaufenster eines Spielzeuggeschäftes in Düsseldorf betrachtet ein kleiner Junge ein langersehntes Flugzeugmodell, und schnell ist sein Entschluss gefasst, heimlich die Sparbüchse zu leeren, in die so mancher Groschen gelangte, den er von der Mutter als Belohnung für Besorgungen erhielt. Im Laden muss er dann jedoch enttäuscht feststellen, dass der Preis des Flugzeugs für ihn nicht erschwinglich ist. Nun, da die Lust, Geld auszugeben, einmal geweckt ist, begibt si.ch der Kleine auf einen richtigen Einkaufsbummel. Vielerlei Lockungen erleichtern ihm das Geldausgeben. Er sieht die vielen bunten Comic-Hefte an den Kiosken, die Spielsalons, in denen ältere Jugendliche scheinbar mühelos Geld gewinnen. und er sieht die erregenden Bilder vor den Kinos. An einer Trinkhalle gibt es neue Gelegenheiten, Geld auszugeben, und so schmilzt seine kleine Barschaft schnell dahin. Da erregt ein Mann seine Aufmerksamkeit, dessen Aufgabe es ist, die Spielautomaten zu leeren. Viele Groschen füllt er in kleine Geldsäckchen, und beim Anblick dieser Summen muss der Junge wieder an sein Flugzeugmodell denken, dessen Erwerb nun in weite Ferne gerückt ist. Neugierig folgt er dem Mann mit den Geldsäcken und sieht, wie dieser im Eingang eines Bankhauses verschwindet. Als auch er eintreten will, weist ihn der Pförtner zurück. Verärgert begibt er sich auf den Heimweg. Einem kleineren Jungen auf der Straße schenkt er den letzten ihm verbliebenen Groschen, den dieser augenblicklich zum Kauf eines Luftballons verwendet. In front of the window of a toy store in Düsseldorf, a young boy looks at a long-desired airplane model and quickly decides to secretly empty the piggy bank that contains many a penny he received from his mother as a reward for running errands. In the store, however, he is disappointed to discover that the price of the airplane is not affordable for him. Now that the desire to spend money has been awakened, the little boy goes on a real shopping tour. All sorts of temptations make it easier for him to spend money. He sees the many colorful comic books at the kiosks, the gambling parlors where older teenagers seem to win money effortlessly, and he sees the exciting pictures in front of the cinemas. There are new opportunities to spend money at a drinking establishment, and so his small cash reserves quickly melt away. His attention is caught by a man whose job it is to empty the slot machines. He fills many pennies into small money bags, and the sight of these sums makes the boy think again of his airplane model, the purchase of which is now a distant prospect. Curious, he follows the man with the money bags and sees him disappear into the entrance of a bank. When he tries to enter, the doorman turns him away. Annoyed, he makes his way home. He gives the last penny he has left to a small boy on the street, who immediately uses it to buy a balloon.
