Die Luft in ihrer vielfältigen Bedeutung für den Menschen ist das Thema des Films. Dabei geht es einmal um den existentiellen Zusammenhang, dass ohne Luft kein Leben möglich ist. Daneben wird gezeigt, dass Luft 'trägt' (z.B. Ballon, Fallschirm), dass man ihre Eigenschaften beim Spielen verwenden kann (z.B. Windrädchen) und dass sie beim Wetter eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Am Rande kommt auch noch die Sauberhaltung der Luft als wichtige Gegenwartsaufgabe zur Sprache.
