'Lieber Gott, ich hab' schon zu Abend gegessen. Es gab Würstchen mit Kartoffelsalat. Ich hab' dir noch ein paar Würstchen übriggelassen. Ich hoffe, das reicht!' Das war Gesas Gebet heute Abend. Der Vater ist überrascht. Nicht nur wegen des Inhalts. Er hört Gesa zum ersten Mal beten. 'Was soll der liebe Gott mit Gesas Würstchen anfangen und dazu noch im Schrank?' fragt er. Mit einer Miene, als ginge es um das Selbstverständlichste von der Welt, sagt Gesa, dass er nun eben da in dem Schrank sitzt und bestimmt Hunger hat. Und tatsächlich, da hockt zwischen Kleidern und Schuhen ein Mann mit schütterem Haar und ergrautem Bart. Es ist dann auch eine lange und umständliche Geschichte, die Gesa erzählen muss, damit auch die Eltern verstehen, wie der liebe Gott in den Schrank kam. Sie erzählt, wie sie ihn vor der Kirche aufgelesen hat und warum sie plötzlich wusste, dass es der liebe Gott ist. Die Eltern bringt das in eine ziemlich schwierige Situation; aus vielen Gründen, nicht nur, weil ganz schwer in Erfahrung zu bringen ist, wie man zum Beispiel den lieben Gott zu bewirten hat. Der liebe Gott freilich hat Gefallen gefunden an Gesa und ihrer Familie. Dear God, I've already had dinner. I had sausages with potato salad. I left you some sausages. I hope that's enough!' That was Gesa's prayer tonight. The father is surprised. Not only because of the content. He hears Gesa pray for the first time. 'What is the good Lord supposed to do with Gesa's sausages, and in the cupboard to boot?' he asks. With an expression as if it were the most natural thing in the world, Gesa says that he is sitting right there in the closet and is certainly hungry. And sure enough, a man with thinning hair and a graying beard is squatting there among her clothes and shoes. It is a long and complicated story that Gesa has to tell so that her parents can understand how the good Lord got into the closet. She tells how she picked him up in front of the church and why she suddenly knew that it was the good Lord. This puts the parents in a rather difficult situation; for many reasons, not only because it is very difficult to find out how to host the dear God, for example. The good Lord, of course, has taken a liking to Gesa and her family.
