Description: 16mm Film - The Social Security System - BRD 1975 Script and Direction: Rüdiger Proske Camera: Gerd Wange Music: Klaus Wüsthoff Narrator: Horst Stark Cast: Rudolf Beiswanger, and others. The film, set in Hamburg, centers on the Mertens family. Their lives are followed over the course of several weeks; during this time, the family members (the married couple Karl and Irene Mertens, their two daughters Heidi and Verena, as well as grandmother Ida Wahle and grandfather Arthur Mertens) come into contact with the various branches of social security. The events are very closely interwoven. The film does not present one type of insurance after another. However, each family member represents one of the four main types of insurance mentioned in the film's opening credits (health, unemployment, pension, and accident insurance). The film does not portray a real family but uses the realistic techniques of a semi-documentary to illustrate the key aspects of these insurance types through individual cases. The film's narrative unfolds in several parallel storylines.
