The screenplay for the film was submitted to Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart in 1968 as part of the 'Write a play' competition organized by its afternoon programme. The young generation was to be given the opportunity to express their attitude to life and their problems in a creative form, to see them realized and discussed on the screen. The 17-year-old Manfred Schmitz is the author of this film, which describes the professional situation of a petrol station apprentice. The teenager asks himself to what extent his actual situation corresponds to his ideas of a 'real' life.
