16mm Film - The Gospel of Mark - BRD 1992
Script and Direction: Gloria Behrens
Camera: Unknown
Cast: Berthold Toetzke, Daniela Tolkien, Pia Podgornik, Thomas-Michael Förster, Jean-Michel Räber, Klaus Hemmerle, and others.
The film depicts how the oldest gospel in the New Testament, the Gospel of Mark, probably came into being. Mark, a wealthy Roman and member of the first Christian community in Antioch, collects ancient traditions about Jesus in Galilee and Jerusalem. Under the impression of the complete destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD (by the Romans), he compiles them into a report on the entire ministry of Jesus and gives his writing the surprising title Gospel (= message of salvation), a word that in the 1st century AD was primarily used as propaganda for the emperor.
