The two 'Stern' photographers, Thomas Höpker and Frank Müller-May, shot this film in the Ethiopian village of Arabati in December 1973 and January 1974 as part of the 'Save the Starving' campaign. Arabati had been hit by a devastating drought. When the two reporters arrived there, nearly a third of the village population had already starved to death or succumbed to diseases against which their bodies could no longer muster any resistance. 'We believe that hunger has never been depicted in such a powerful way, and we also believe that this film offers a new source of motivation for development policy and private engagement.'
