The practice and teaching methods of physical education in the 1st and 2nd grades are presented as 'education through movement' within the framework of overall teaching in elementary school. The basic forms typical for this age group have been chosen as examples of physical education in schools: running, jumping and carrying, springing, pushing, crawling, rolling, climbing and balancing, swinging up and down on equipment, throwing and catching. Building on children's play, the emphasis is on the independence of the pupils in acquiring skills and on their own creativity.
