A question mark movie on the subject of “youth and career”. A young car mechanic in a secure position is suddenly faced with the question of whether he should accept a tempting offer from the owner of a dance club to play guitar for him. Among the people attending a professional boxing event in the evening is Helmut, a young car mechanic (played by the unforgettable Peter Beil). Helmut's colleague had not been able to come to the event because “we were out of dough”. In further conversation, it turns out that Helmut is saving up for his own car. But that doesn't stop him from going on “a parade through the city” with his friends at the weekend. Helmut has his guitar with him, and in the middle of the night they “rock'n roll on the pavement” until an elderly woman emphatically forbids the disturbing noise. The film then depicts in short episodes how Helmut feels about his work, how strong his desire for his own car is and how he knows how to present himself as a fun-loving journeyman. In the evening, he complains about the “tired music” in a dance hall, and before he knows it, he has been called to the podium to make things better. The very next morning, the owner of the dance hall is with him. The guitarist of the small band is ill and won't be playing for a long time. Helmut is to be given “his chance”. He is also offered 200 DM more a month, free dinner and a day off a week. Helmut is thus faced with the question of whether he should leave his job in favor of the apparently “good job”. The movie adds a few more arguments, but leaves the boy alone with his decision.
