The Zielinski family has moved house: for the first day at the new school, Mrs. Zielinski has cut off her daughter Berta's long hair - accidentally too short. Berta now looks like a boy: however, she likes this role and therefore decides to be a boy too. She wears pants and introduces herself to her class as 'Berti'. She is soon accepted by the boys as a friend and goalkeeper. The soccer team has only one goal: to collect the 30 marks for a real leather ball as quickly as possible. In the process, the boys develop a considerable business sense that is not inferior to that of the adults in the years before, when it was a matter of procuring the bare necessities for their daily needs. In the end, their friends find out that 'Berti' is really Berta, but even as a girl she is allowed to keep the balls in the goal. (First broadcast on ZDF: December 9th, 1989)
