Amidst the quiet beauty of nature, mountain youth lives in their modest, peaceful existence, in their camaraderie with animals and in the harsh community of fate shared with adults. From an early age, these children are drawn into the struggle for daily bread. The children's work alternates with their joyful and simple games — yet even over the most cheerful scenes hovers that deep seriousness which the mountains have always imparted to their inhabitants. For the mountain children, the concept of "homeland" never becomes a romantic notion, but is from the very beginning a harsh reality into which they must fit themselves.
