Her name is Anna and she has recently moved with her family from Poland. Her father is unemployed and the family lives in very cramped conditions. At school, Anna is rejected and ridiculed by the others because of her clothes and language. Ben, who has fallen in love with Anna, defends her and therefore faces the hostility of his classmates himself. For Ben, his feelings for Anna are something new and he doesn't quite know how to deal with them. Anna likes Ben too, the two become good friends and gradually their classmates also realize that their prejudices against Anna are wrong. Ben is sad when he learns that Anna is moving with her parents to the Ruhr area, where her father has found a job. He is left only with the consolation that at least they can write to each other. And: Ben has grown up a bit during this time. (First broadcast on ARD: 30.09.1980)
