Asylum seekers are accompanied through the various stages of their stay: Arrival at the port, filing an application at the foreigners' registration office, identification procedure, arrival and stay in a collection camp, hearing at the Federal Office for the Recognition of Foreign Refugees, pronouncement of judgment by an administrative court, expulsion and deportation. It is less the intention of the film to provide detailed information about these various stages than to focus on the people and their experiences. In the poetic texts, the people themselves have their say, foreign poets (Cengiz Doğu, Oswaldo Bayer, Urs M. Fiechtner) who have personally experienced our asylum procedure. In this way, it is not a single fate that is illuminated, but many faces appear, the images have an exemplary character, drawing universally valid conclusions. The film does not attempt to agitate or provoke, but rather depicts, goes into depth and provides food for thought.
